How I met the cube

Eric Lee (USA)

It was about 4 years ago at the end of April when my brother got a Rubik’s cube on his Birthday for one of his presents. I remember him getting one before, but I was like 5 when that happened and my brother was 7 so we had no idea what to do and we lost it by now. After my brother learned how to solve it, I took it upon myself to learn how to solve it and be as cool as him. As I was sitting in front of the computer, I realized that this cube was SUPER stiff. I asked my dad if I could get a cube also, but for it to turn better than the SUPER stiff Rubik’s cube. (Those were the words that I used back then, but I do now know that if it weren’t for the Rubik’s, there wouldn’t be anything like we see today).

Later, I came home from school and my dad said that my cube came. It was the Dayan Zhanchi. I didn’t know the many of the Brand Names, but I was SUPER happy because it turned very nicely. It had a kind of scratchy feeling and made that Clickity-Clackity noise when you turned it and it was SOOOO satisfying.

Ever since that day, I have never been the same and I played with it for Hours. I would take it with me to long trips, to school, and because I’m Korean (and I could solve the cube in a minute), everyone thought I was a genius. To conclude, I was about 8 when I got my Dayan Zhanchi and it has had a big impact on me today. The Cube will always be my favorite toy. That is how me, a regular guy, got into cubing and join the Rubik’s cube Community.
