How I met the cube
Ethan Wright (12)
I met the cube when I was in 6th grade. At my school, some of my friends had cubes, and I was fascinated by them, it was so cool to me how they could do something as crazy and hard in 30 seconds.
Then they started getting things other than just Rubik’s cubes, like new speedcubes, 2x2x2s, pyraminxs and loads other crazy things that I thought were impossible, then I decided it was my turn. I went home one day and told my mom I wanted a cube. She told me that my dad already had one and I got so excited, then I found out that it was a Rubik’s 3x3x3 that he got before my parents were even married in 1999, that turned like two rocks rubbing against each other, and I told my mom that it wasn’t going to work out for me.
I went onto amazon and searched up speedcubes. Obviously, Moyu was the first to come up, but I scrolled down a bit and found my first ever speed cube, the Dayan Zhanchi 3x3x3 stickerless. My mom let me order it and, I was so excited for it to come in a few days. The next morning I went to school and told all my friends that I ordered a cube. Then my best friend started teaching me some cubing annotation and I couldn’t wait to get my cube.
I got home and went straight to the mailbox and there was a package! I was so happy I went straight to trying to figure out how to solve it. I immediately got frustrated, which makes sense, but eventually, I figured it out and, I was so happy. I guess one of my friends from gymnastics saw that I loved Cubing and got me a Rubik’s 2x2x2 for Christmas and figured out how to solve it in about two minutes since I already knew how to solve a 3x3x3 and then I started getting other cubes, and I just ended up loving cubing.
