How I Met The Cube
Devin Callahan (13, USA)
I met the Rubik’s Cube about 6 or 7 years ago. I had gotten one from my mom on Christmas morning and another from my grandma on my birthday. I didn’t learn to solve it until the beginning of 2017. I don’t remember much of me meeting the cube so i’ll talk about how I solved it and became a cuber.
One day I stayed home from school because I was sick. My mom walked into my room and started asking what I wanted for lunch when she saw the Rubik’s Cube on my dresser, still mixed up from my childhood. She asked if I could solve it, my response was, “No. It’s too hard and confusing.” My mom immediately said, she believed I could solve it. The rest of the day I was on youtube looking for a tutorial to solve the cube, but they were all so frustrating and difficult. I finally came across a youtube video made by a cube known as T2 Games. I followed the tutorial, and within an hour I had solved the Rubik’s Cube!
I went around showing everyone, but they all wanted me to show them I could solve it, yet I only remembered 2 algorithms and didn’t even know where or when to use them. After a few days of practice I had It memorized and could solve the cube in around 4 minutes!
I got faster as the weeks went by, but needed a better cube. My Rubik’s Cube 2.0 just wouldn’t cut it, so I went to Toys r us and bought a $5 “Speed Cube.” It was a pretty good cube and got my record down to 56 seconds. My cubing adventure is still going on and has a bright future. I am supposed to be getting the MoYu Weilong GTS V1 this summer!
